- View all variations открывает контактный лист — уравновесьте один свет с самыми тёмными и светлыми отделками за один сеанс.
- Shadow Catcher — мягкая контактная тень под продуктом: ощущение опоры без видимого пола.
A configurable product uses one shared light set for every part and variation. That is deliberate: shoppers compare finishes, and a comparison is only trustworthy when the light stays constant while the product changes — the same principle as a physical showroom.
The shared environment is the default scene’s lighting record. Historically you tuned it in the scene editor (against a single model), then switched to the configurator to see the result on the full assembly. The lighting panel removes that loop.
The lighting panel
Section titled “The lighting panel”In the Configurator tab, open the right-rail ☀ Configurator lighting toggle (next to the settings gear). The panel edits the shared environment while the live assembly is on screen:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Select HDR | The studio environment image lighting the whole assembly. |
| Exposure | Overall brightness of the rendered image. |
| Environment Intensity | How strongly the HDR lights materials (reflections included). |
| Rotation | Spins the environment to move highlights and shadows around the product. |
| IBL Balance / Strength | Balances the key light against the environment light. |
| Key Light | The directional light: color, absolute intensity (or Auto to follow IBL balance), and camera-follow. |
| Ambient Light | Uniform fill color and intensity — lifts crushed shadows on dark materials. |
| Shadow Catcher / Opacity | The soft contact shadow under the product. |
Every change applies to the preview instantly. Switch variations while the panel is open — click through your darkest and brightest finishes and balance the one light against all of them in a single session.
The contact sheet
Section titled “The contact sheet”The panel’s View all variations button opens a grid — every variation rendered as a thumbnail under the current shared light, like a photographer’s contact print. One glance answers “does this exposure hold every finish?” without clicking variations one by one.
- Thumbnails render in your browser using the models the configurator already loaded — no server round-trip.
- Spot a cell that blows out or goes muddy → click it. That variation loads in the main preview, you adjust the light panel, then reopen the sheet to re-check.
- Cells are grouped by part and follow the picker’s display order.
One record, everywhere
Section titled “One record, everywhere”The panel writes the same record the scene editor edits — there is no separate “configurator light”:
- Adjusting here updates the default scene’s lighting; the scene editor shows the same values, and vice versa.
- Saving the project publishes it — the public viewer renders every variation under the exact environment you tuned.
- Reset returns the record to the neutral Product Studio default, which is calibrated to read well across most materials.
Accent light per variation
Section titled “Accent light per variation”The soft-fit accent light is a product rig, not a per-finish setting. It is authored once in the scene editor, on the project’s default (starred) scene, and every variation of every part inherits it — position, aim, IES profile and all. Part order does not matter: the rig follows the starred scene even when its model belongs to the second or third part. Swapping finishes never moves the lamp; only the finish changes under it.
Two controls sit on each variation of the part whose model is in the starred scene, under Accent light:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Accent light power | A multiplier on the inherited rig, 0.25× to 3×, default 1×. A very dark finish reads better at 1.5×; a bright one stays at 1×. Only the strength changes — the lamp does not rebuild, so switching finishes stays instant. |
| Use this variation’s own light | For a variation whose geometry differs from the default (an extra cushion, a missing cover). The variation then uses the accent light authored on its own scene instead of the rig. The switch appears only once that scene has an accent light of its own. |
Reset to product returns a variation to 1×. The editor preview and the published
viewer read the same record and apply the same multiplier.
Balancing tips
Section titled “Balancing tips”- Start from the Product Studio default and change as little as possible — it is tone-mapped to hold both dark and bright materials.
- If one finish only reads correctly with extreme exposure, the finish’s texture is usually the problem (albedo outside the physical range), not the light. Fix the material rather than bending the shared light around it.
- Prefer Environment Intensity for material response and Exposure for overall image brightness; large exposure swings clip highlights on metals first.
